Biography

Dr. Kate Sangwon Lee is a human-computer interaction (HCI) researcher and educator who aims to develop valuable and sustainable products with human-centered design knowledge. She has crossed the area of academics and industry over her career, aiming to bridge the two realms with her practical and hands-on expertise. Before her present appointment, she worked as a Post-doc research fellow for the Digital Twin project at the Division of Industrial Design at NUS, which aims to propose an occupant-centric Digital Twin system.

Her Ph.D. thesis topic, “Responsible Social Media: Development and Evaluation of Key Guiding Principles,” is based on her 10 years of industry experience as a user experience (UX) designer and Product Manager in South Korea’s top tech companies, Naver and SK Telecom, which social platforms contribute to and influence most Korean people’s lives. During her industry experiences, she covered various social platform services across mobile and PC devices, including AI speakers, search, utility apps, and entertainment. Her research interests include ethics and responsibility of social platforms and how to propose inclusive products.
