Innovation & Design Programme

Projects from EG3301R Ideas to Proof-of-Concept

Innovating for Better Healthcare

Interactive educational tool for dentistry undergraduates

This project aims to solve visualisation difficulties that undergraduate dentistry students face in using 2D static cone-based computer tomography (CBCT) scans for making decisions in impacted canine treatment.

Pre-crawler-3301

Pre-crawler device for infants

We provide parents of infants with neuromuscular disorders with an intuitive, effective and convenient pre-crawler device, which aids in the necessary reinforcement and induction of muscle memory through reciprocal and repetitive limb movements.

PreciDent: precise dental miniscrew insertion

A seamlessly designed single-hand tool that empowers orthodontists with autonomy while offering real-time guidance during miniscrew insertion, leveraging advanced angle detection software.

StableX: your path to perfect miniscrew placements

In this project, we designed a guide to provide stability for current contra angle hand drivers (CAHD) to help orthodontists insert miniscrews more accurately and precisely for orthodontic miniscrew surgeries.

Universal miniscrew guide

To address visualisation and placement challenges when orthodontists insert temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in patients' jaws due to restrictive insertion sites, we developed a radio-opaque TAD guide for swift, precise positioning and securement of the insertion site location and angle.

ZenHealth: Enhancing mental resilience through habit cultivation

This project aims to promote and cultivate a more mentally resilient student population by lowering the friction to the adoption of research-backed methods, through a blend of physical sensory experiences provided by the ZenBox, and holistic digital approach from the ZenApp.

Innovating for Future Mobility

Boeing single cockpit engineer

This project aims to automate the tasks of the pilot monitoring by having a smart glasses display checklists and automating the switches.

Forest surveying UAV

This project seeks to combat deforestation and forest fire threats in Indonesia by equipping conservationists with real-time forest monitoring capabilities through the use of fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

HERMES: future of aviation

In this project, we redesigned a cockpit to reduce the cognitive workload of pilots such that we can be a step closer to making safe, single-pilot cockpits a reality for commercial flights.

Innovating for Smarter Living

AIoT predictive maintenance solutions for water pumps

Our project aims to design a predictive maintenance solution for water pumps utilising IoT, AI, and edge computing technologies.

Autonomous solution for blood transportation in hospital

In this project, we designed an autonomous solution to offer hospitals a streamlined and secure blood transportation solution, enhancing efficiency, saving lives in emergencies, and minimizing the reliance on manual labour.

CHINGU: your interactive Korean language learning assistant

This project aims to enhance NUS Korean 2 student's conversational fluency by using an AI chatbot that evaluates their voice responses to a question asked in real-time for grammar, response time, and appropriateness.

ComPack booster seat

This project aims to help working parents commuting alone with their child have a hassle-free yet safe experience in vehicles for hire by designing a booster seat that is compact, lightweight, and can be set up within a minute with minimal steps.

EcoAir: IoT-enabled energy consumption monitoring in warehouses

For those managing large, cooled spaces who want higher efficiency, EcoAir provides an easy-to-install, retrofitted solution which can reduce the energy consumption of your cooling system while being significantly cheaper than hardware upgrades.

Green-speaker

Go deep in green with Bang & Olufsen

This project aims to revolutionize the consumer electronics industry, specifically Bang & Olufsen, by designing both a sustainable packaging and an eco-friendly battery source, ensuring a greener and more environmentally responsible future for tech products.

Voice detection by bone conduction

In this project, we designed an earbud with the optimal bone conduction microphone position which aims to help users "discover their voice, amidst the noise".

Innovating for Sustainable Cities

ECO-TIC Acid: from food waste to lactic acid

Through our process, lactic acid is harvested from municipal food waste. In lieu of the more common anaerobic digestion process, our process yields greater economic value with the lactic acid product.

The Moving Farm: container mobile farming system

In this project, we designed a container farming system to provide farmers and cities with a seamless container urban farm system to maximise crop yield, which is easy to operate and can be integrated into any standard 20ft recycled shipping containers.

Valorising fruit waste: from orange peels to sodium ascorbate

This project aims to turn trash to treasure by extracting Vitamin C from fruit waste such as orange peels that can be used as feedstock for various processes.

Innovating with Immersive Reality

D-Spark: patient communication training for dentistry students

This project aims to enhance dentistry students' dentist-patient communication ability by developing a readily accessible software that provides risk-free environment for interactions with diverse geriatric patient archetypes, addressing the limitations of current standardised patient programmes.

Multiplayer VR for collaborative training in Code Blue

The project aims to bridge the communication and workflow coordination gap among nurses while they are attending to emergency situations such as resuscitating a patient, through a VR simulation that serves as a platform for nursing students to practice these skills.

Olay Skin Vision: experience a world of possibilities

In this project, we designed an immersive AR portal to simplify the complexities of skincare product ingredients, enabling consumers to grasp their effects on the skin more effectively and visualise their impact on facial appearance.

Pantene ARvolution

This project aims to strengthen Pantene's brand engagement with the younger generation by introducing an innovative social media AR game/filter that not only addresses the challenge of connecting with a younger audience but also enhances their overall brand experience.

VR episiotomy training

This project aims to value-add to the medical school's current episiotomy training procedure through a VR application that allows medical students to absorb episiotomy-related knowledge and skills in a realistic simulated environment.

Special Competition Projects

Bumblebee

Bumblebee is a student competition team who builds and designs highly intelligent autonomous maritime vehicles that capable of navigating underwater and on the water surface to perform a series of tasks without any remote control assistance in changing environmental conditions.

NUS Formula SAE: R24e

In NUS Formula SAE, we design and fabricate a formula-style single seater car to take part in FSAE Michigan, one of the toughest inter-varsity competitions where we compete against some of the best universities around the world in both static engineering judging and dynamic time trials.

University Rover Challenge: Endeavour

In this project, we designed Endeavour, our modular Mars Rover, to serve as the foundation to compete in the University Rovers Challenge by developing its modular structure, basic navigation, and telemetry features for future teams to build upon.
