Stanford Global Engineering Design Innovation Programme
The Stanford Global Engineering Design Innovation (GEDI) programme aims to foster global design collaboration between graduate engineering students at Stanford University and engineering students at other institutions, empowering them to become future-ready innovators and entrepreneurs. NUS is pleased to join as a new international partner institution of the Stanford GEDI programme.
In this programme, project teams comprising engineering students from Stanford and NUS will work together with international industry partners to create products and systems that break new ground and uncover new market opportunities. They are expected to do the following:
- Conduct extensive research to identify a problem or need to address based on a broadly defined design prompt provided by industry partners
- Generate ideas for solutions that consider design requirements, technology development, and deployment practicality
- Apply design and engineering knowledge and skills to build prototypes to test and refine the proposed solutions
Project teams that have promising solutions are encouraged to develop their solutions into start-ups, supported by NUS Enterprise through venture incubation, mentoring, and funding.
This programme spans over two semesters from August to June, starting with the project kick-off in mid-August (for NUS students) and ending with the EXPE Showcase at Stanford in June. NUS students will spend a week at Stanford in mid-January, while their counterparts from Stanford will be at NUS for a week in late March. All students will be at Stanford for two weeks in late May and early June to complete their projects leading up to the EXPE Showcase (note: the programme timeline may be subject to minor changes due to logistical and other factors).Â
NUS students in this programme will work on their projects under CDE4301 Innovation & Design Capstone which fulfils the Integrated Project requirement in the CDE curriculum. The main deliverables for CDE4301 are an interim report and presentation at the end of Semester 1, and a final report and presentation at the end of Semester 2. Students in this programme are required to continue working on their projects after the end of Semester 2 together with their counterparts from Stanford in preparation for EXPE Showcase in June.
Students will be provided with funding for their projects and the cost of the visits to Stanford will be borne by NUS.
How to apply
