Team Bumblebee

Team Bumblebee is a fully undergraduate multi-disciplinary project comprising of students across multiples courses such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science.

Our team aims to both inspire and inculcate passion in Robotics and Engineering as well as to explore research and development in real-world scenarios to push the frontiers of technology. Our team's vision is to engineer maritime autonomous systems of the future and the project started in 2012 with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle which is currently in its 4th generation and later added an Autonomous Surface Vessel in 2016 and has since evolved to a 3rd generation. The project has also recently added an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to its fleet of vehicles that it is testing, developing and sending to international competitions.

The team has clinched several titles from multiple internationally recognized competitions such as RoboSub Competition as well as the Maritime RobotX Challenge. In 2022, the team won Autonomy Challenge Champions as well as 1st for Design Documentation in RoboSub held in USA and the team got 1st Runners Up as well as 1st for design documentation in RobotX held in Australia.

In team Bumblebee, you can expect to work hard and get your minds challenged. Our team constantly tests new technology as well as design our own systems. In addition to being exposed to the hands-on challenges, our members also receive industry level advice from our sponsors, thus giving our members greater insights into the technologies they are working with and exploring. The team also visits sponsors to learn about their operations as well as their systems and gives the members a sneak preview into what the industry is looking into developing.

The team also has a training program that takes in new members known as the Hornet Program. Members will learn and build a low-cost AUV from scratch and participate in the local Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge. Through this training program, members will learn about the basics of Mechanical, Electrical as well as Software Engineering in the maritime field.
