Creative Media Technology
In an age where art, design, and computation converge, Creative Media Technology invites students to explore how immersive systems, generative media, and interactive interfaces can transform storytelling, cultural experience, and public engagement. This studio bridges creativity and engineering innovation, empowering students to design experiences that are both technologically advanced and emotionally resonant.
Students will experiment with Extended Reality (XR), AI-driven generative tools, multimodal technologies, and real-time media systems to prototype novel creative applications. Beyond technical implementation, the studio emphasises cultural relevance, accessibility, and audience engagement, encouraging students to reimagine how technology can enhance culture, augment live performance, and shape future creative practices.
With access to the large LED array wall at E5 for full-scale prototyping, students will collaborate across disciplines to bring their interactive concepts to life. Outstanding projects may be featured in public exhibitions at venues managed by the National Heritage Board, including the National Museum of Singapore and Asian Civilisations Museum, or showcased at national events such as the Singapore Heritage Festival and Singapore Night Festival.
Problem statements:
Students may select or propose projects aligned with the studio’s creative technology focus:
- Sensory interfaces that mediate bodily expression (haptics, olfaction, audio)
- Immersive storytelling in VR/AR (interactive narratives, museum digital collection)
- Generative visual content for live performances or installations (3D scanning, reconstruction)
- Multimodal data visualisation for culture and media
Expected outcomes:
- Design and prototype interactive multimedia systems integrating sensors and actuators in real-context media
- Apply generative AI and machine learning techniques to creative and cultural production
- Critically assess creative technologies for usability, interactivity, and cultural impact
- Collaborate across art, design, and engineering disciplines to deliver public-facing interactive experience
