Robot buddy for elderly in urban household

As a result of Singapore’s aging population, there is a rising number of elderly individuals residing independently within the community. This trend raises significant concerns regarding the physical and mental health of these seniors as research indicates a heightened risk of social isolation among elderly individuals living alone which has been associated with adverse health outcomes such as higher mortality rates.

Also, the introduction of the Healthier SG initiative underscores a strategic shift towards preventive healthcare leveraging personalised healthcare approaches and smart technology to address increasing demand for healthcare resources arising from the rising population of urban-dwelling elderly. In line with this goal, we developed a robot buddy that can provide cognitive stimulation and social facilitation for the elderly. The current iteration value adds to the solution by integrating robot locomotion to elevate the user experience, enabling social proximity for optimal human-robot interaction
and enhancing product usability.
