Indoor search using swarm of drones
A swarm of drones is particularly useful for disaster response missions. In addition to being able to operate in hazardous environments, they can also search large areas more quickly and efficiently than a few human rescuers.
In this project, we designed a swarm of CrazyFlie 2.1 drones that can navigate through an indoor environment and search for victims. Using a decentralised and fully-autonomous control system, the drones are capable of performing simultaneous take-off, searching the mission area effectively, identifying single-rescue versus double-rescue victims, and landing next to these victims when they are located.
This project was supported by Temasek Laboratories @ NUS. It emerged as the 1st runner-up in Category E (Swarm) of the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC) 2024 which was organised by DSO National Laboratories and Science Centre Singapore.
