Eighteen faculty members from the NUS College of Design and Engineering (CDE) have been named in the 2022 Highly Cited Researchers™ list and among the World's Most Influential Scientific Minds.
Compiled by Clarivate, the annual list uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify researchers who demonstrate significant impact and influence in their chosen field by publishing several highly cited papers during the last decade.
The names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index.
The 2022 list comprises almost 7,000 researchers from 69 countries and regions. In the latest list, Singapore ranked in 10th place for countries and regions with the most Highly Cited Researchers.
Commenting on the 2022 list, NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology) Professor Chen Tsuhan said: "NUS celebrates the exceptional accomplishments of our researchers who are driving innovation at the forefront of their fields, and making significant real-world impact on the community. Their achievements contribute to cementing NUS' position as a world-leading university and Singapore's reputation as a thriving hub for research."
According to Clarivate, Highly Cited Researchers contribute disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and innovations that make the world healthier, richer, more sustainable and more secure.
"The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at NUS who are having a significant impact on the research community as evidenced by the rate at which their work is being cited by their peers," said David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate.
"These individuals are helping to transform human ingenuity into our world's greatest breakthroughs."
The CDE faculty members named in the 2022 list represent six departments: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
