Dr Liu Thai Ker (1938–2026) was one of Singapore’s most influential architects and urban planners — celebrated globally as the Architect of Modern Singapore and the country’s first master planner. His visionary leadership transformed the urban landscape of Singapore and helped make it one of the world’s most liveable cities.

During a distinguished career spanning decades, Dr Liu guided the planning of 20 out of 24 HDB new towns, shaping inclusive, sustainable communities for generations of Singaporeans. He served as Chief Architect and CEO of the Housing Development Board and later as Chief Planner and CEO of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, leaving a lasting imprint on Singapore’s built environment.

Dr Liu Thai Ker believed in cities that work for people — where innovation meets compassion, and design serves community. Your support for the Liu Thai Ker Professorship continues this mission and advances ideas that matter. Give today and shape tomorrow’s cities.
