SUB-NAMES OF Faculty of Engineering Bursary

Committed to helping needy undergraduates, Mr Seah Cheng San (Civil Engineering '82, Business '92) spearheaded the fundraising for this Bursary together with his alumni committee. The alumni realised its aspiration to help nurture a spirit of adventure and passion to make a difference among students from their college. The Committee continues to organise regular gatherings for their classmates and raise funds for this bursary and other causes.

Faculty of Engineering - Adriann and Francesco Bursary (2025)

Coming from a low-income family, Mr Adriann Ang (Electrical Engineering '04) took a study loan and worked as an Undergraduate Financial Services Consultant at American Insurance Assurance (AIA) while studying at NUS. When he graduated, he continued his line of financial work. Under the guidance of his Director, and with support from his wife, Ms Francesco Lim, he attained his current position as an Associate Director. He enjoys his work in helping his clients in financial planning and achieving their financial goals. Concurrently, he is the Head of Training at Win Financial Group. Mr Ang believes in giving back to society and he contributed back to his alma mater by establishing this bursary to help financially needy CDE students. Mr Ang is very thankful for the encouragement and support of his wife, Ms Francesco Lim and attribute his success to her.

Faculty of Engineering - BME Alumni Bursary (2022)

The class ambassadors for the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), Class of 2014, rallied their classmates, as well as faculty, students and other alumni, to establish this sub-named bursary. Their fundraising was led by Professor Dean Ho, the Head of Department.

Faculty of Engineering - CEE Department Bursary (2018)

The bursary was established by a group of donors from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) in 2017. Funding was championed by Professor Quek Ser Tong, who was the Head of Department for CEE then.

Faculty of Engineering - Chan Pui Chi Bursary (2025)

This bursary has been named by Professor Heng Chye Kiang, former Dean of the School of Design and Environment and Deputy Dean of the College of Design and Engineering, for his mother in appreciation for her unconditional love and unwavering support throughout his life.

Faculty of Engineering - Chee Leong & Soo Hwee Bursary (2017)

Mr Lee Chee Leong (Mechanical Engineering '93) joined Hewlett-Packard (HP) after graduation. In 2008, he became Director of Regional Operations at Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL). From 2011 to 2019, he led JLL's Integrated Facilities Management business for Singapore and Vietnam, navigating challenges such as a shortage of skilled managers and the Singapore Government’s push for innovative solutions. Promoted to Managing Director of JLL's Work Dynamics business in 2019, he retired in 2023 to pursue personal interests and social contributions. Mr Lee and his wife, Soo Hwee, established The Familee Flourish Fund in December 2023 to support marginalized youths, disadvantaged families, and minority communities in Singapore. He serves on the accreditation board of the Singapore International Facility Management Association (SIFMA), mentors young leaders, and volunteers for charitable organizations. An active athlete during university, he served as Vice-Chair of the Hall Sports Committee and the University Lifeguard Corps. Ms Choo Soo Hwee, an NTU Accountancy graduate (1993), is a Senior Accountant at Starbucks Singapore. Together, they set up a bursary in 2017 to support CDE students, inspired by Mr Lee’s belief in the value of his NUS Engineering education.

Faculty of Engineering - Chemical Engineering Class of 2009 Bursary (2022)

In July 2021, alumni Mr Lee Jia Xing ('09) and Mr Goh Ghim Song ('09), with the support of Mr Yeo Keng Joon, rallied their classmates of the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) Class of 2009 to fundraise to provide financial assistance to needy undergraduates, with preference for undergraduates from the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.

Faculty of Engineering - Chemical Engineering Fortrec Bursary (2022)

Mr Ajay Bhattacharya ('88), Founder and Managing Director of Fortrec Group Fortrec established this sub-named bursary to provide financial assistance to needy undergraduates from the CDE, with preference for undergraduates from the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE).

Faculty of Engineering - Chen Hao Bursary (2021)

Er. Chen Hao Civil Engineering '74) is the Managing Director of Engineers 2002 Private Limited, a provider of professional consulting services in civil and structural engineering for the planning, design and supervision of various types of building and civil engineering projects. In July 2020, Er. Chen made established this sub-named bursary to support financially needy undergraduates from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Faculty of Engineering - Choo-Lim Bursary (2018)

Professor Choo Chiau Beng has been with Keppel Corporation Limited since 2009 and is currently the non-executive director of Keppel Care Foundation Limited. In July 2014, Prof Choo was appointed as the NUS Provost’s Chair and Professor (Practice) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Department of Management and Organisation, NUS Business School. In 2017, Prof Choo made the gift in memory of his late parents, Mr Choo Lye Heng and Madam Lim Swee Hiang.

Faculty of Engineering - Civil Engineering Class of 85 Bursary (2018)

Many alumni from the NUS Civil Engineering Class of 1985 experienced financial hardships during their undergraduate days. On 15 December 2016, during their 2nd reunion, they established this sub-named bursary in celebration of their camaraderie and to support other engineering students facing similar challenges. Fundraising was championed by Mr Wong Jin Kok (Civil Engineering '85).

Faculty of Engineering - Dennis Koh Bursary (2023)

Mr Dennis Koh (Chemical Engineering '85) was the first president of the NUS Chemical Engineering Alumni. He is currently the General Manager at Stahl Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, a company that specialises in providing high quality coatings for leather, flexible and non‐flexible substrates, textiles and related products. He established this bursary in 2021 to support future chemical engineering students.

Faculty of Engineering - DRH/Sheares Hall Alumni Bursary (2018)

No strangers to the challenges of financial hardship, a group of NUS alumni from Dunearn Road Hostels and Sheares Hall set up this bursary to celebrate their friendship and to support the Faculty of Engineering Bursary. Fund raising was championed by Mr Seah Cheng San, a DRH/Sheares Hall alumnus.

Faculty of Engineering - Engineering Class of 1982 Bursary (2018)

The Engineering Class of 1982 celebrated its 35th Anniversary with fundraising on 21 July 2017 at NUSS, The Graduate Club. Many alumni from the NUS Engineering Class of 1982 have achieved financial stability and wanted to pay it forward. They made this gift to the Faculty of Engineering Bursary in 2017 as a symbol of their friendship and in support of those in financial need. Fundraising was championed by Mr Seah Cheng San (Civil Engineering '82).

Faculty of Engineering - Eu Capital Bursary (2021)

Eu Capital is an asset management firm that provides wealth management and portfolio management services to high-net-worth individuals and families. They are holders of the Capital Markets Services Licence, awarded selectively to firms that meet the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s set of stringent criteria. Their founder, Mr Kelvin Eu (Business '11), has long been a champion for fundraising for education, and set up this bursary in 2020 to offer financial aid to students who cannot afford to pay tuition.

Faculty of Engineering - Financial 360 Bursary (2023)

Financial 360 is a group of financial consultants representing Great Eastern Financial Advisers who believe in empowering youths in the area of financial education. The Director, Mr Yeoh Cheng Huann (Chemical Engineering '05) was on a study award from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) during his undergraduate days and he knows the value of being able to study free of financial worries. On behalf of Financial 360, Mr Yeoh made a gift in 2021 to establish this bursary.

Faculty of Engineering - GP Rangaiah & Family Bursary (2025)

Emeritus Professor Gade Pandu Rangaiah has had a long and distinguished career with the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. For over 40 years, he has played an integral role in educating thousands of chemical engineers, while simultaneously contributing to the growth and recognition of the department. This bursary builds on his passion for nurturing engineers and researchers of the future. In general, he has been donating to NUS over the years. In 2015, he donated to set-up the “GP Rangaiah Prize for Process Design” for the top student in the capstone design project in the B.Eng. (Chemical Engineering), and later extended it to B.Tech. (Chemical Engineering). Out of his own interest and passion, Prof Rangaiah continues to contribute to education and research in chemical engineering both locally and globally.

Faculty of Engineering - Heng Hiang Thong Bursary (2025)

The late Mr Heng Hiang Thong was a businessman. He was the great-grandson of Mr Heng Pang Keat, a former Justice of Peace and one of the pioneering business and society leaders in Singapore during the colonial times.

Faculty of Engineering - HSHM Bursary (2023)

Founded in 2009, Hock Seng Hoe Metal Company Pte Ltd (“HSHM”) is a manufacturer of quality steel materials for the construction, shipyard, oil and gas and offshore marine industries. The company has won many awards over the years, including the One Asia Award in 2015 and the Enterprise 50 (E50) Award in 2023. In 2022, Mr Sam Chee Keong, Managing Director of HSHM, made this gift to provide financial assistance to needy undergraduates, with a preference for undergraduates from the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.

Faculty of Engineering - Lee Loo Hay Memorial Bursary (2023)

The late Professor Lee Loo Hay from the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) conducted highly impactful research in modern container port operations and founded 2 research centres with his colleague Professor Chew Ek Peng. He passed away on 17 March 2022 at the age of 53. He is survived by his wife and two children. In memory of Prof Lee, his colleagues and students set up this bursary. Fundraising was championed by Mr Yeo Keng Joon and Mr Seah Cheng San, who are both NUS alumni.

Faculty of Engineering - Liew Ah Choy Bursary (2018)

Emeritus Professor Liew Ah Choy served NUS for over 36 years, he was the Head of the Deaprtment of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (now College of Design and Engineering). Emeritus Professor Liew established this bursary in 2017 to promote the study of engineering and hopes to make a difference to someone’s career pursuits in engineering. In a fundraising event in 2021, Mr Yeo Keng Joon initiated fundraising to contribute towards Emeritus Professor Liew's sub-named bursary and successfully established another bursary from the contributions of the ex-students and friends of Emeritus Professor Liew.

Faculty of Engineering - Lim Pu Leh Bursary (2021)

Illiterate and widowed at a young age, the late Mdm Lim Pu Leh took on many difficult jobs to raise her three children. Despite her hardships, she emphasised generosity and compassion. She was an excellent role model: accepting challenges, working hard, being thrifty and yet generous and helpful to others.This bursary is set up through a gift of $25,000 in 2020 by her son, Mr Yeo Keng Joon, and her other children, as their contribution to give back to the community in memory of their beloved mother. To remember their Malaysian roots, the donors have requested that the annual awards be given to financially challenged students from Malaysia where possible.

Faculty of Engineering - Mr & Mrs Sim Hong Kwang Bursary (2024)

Mr Sim Hong Kwang (Chemical Engineering '87) is a Course Manager of the Life Sciences Department in the School of Applied and Health Sciences at the Institute of Technical Education. uring the Chemical Engineering Alumni Homecoming 2022, Mr and Mrs Sim made this gift to help needy undergraduates and support financially challenged students.

Faculty of Engineering - MSE Alumni Bursary

On 16 June 2021, at the NUS Engineering Charity Golf event held at the Laguna National Gold & Country Club, various alumni from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) collectively fund raised for financially needy undergraduates. Funding raising was championed by Mr Yeo Keng Joon.

Led by Associate Professor Xue Junmin and Professor Wang Qing, a group of donors including staff, students and alumni made a gift in 2021 in honour of the Department of Material Science & Engineering (MSE).

Faculty of Engineering - NUSS Bursary (2023)

As Singapore’s premier graduate club, National University of Singapore Society (NUSS) creates a common meeting ground for graduates from local and recognised foreign universities to network. In 2022, NUSS made this gift in support of the NUS Engineering Charity Golf 2021 held in August 2021, as well as in commitment to the NUSS mission to support both the interests of NUS and the wider graduate community.

Faculty of Engineering - Pung Gek Tiang Memorial Bursary (2018)

Professor Chua Kee Chaing had a 30-year career at NUS, during which he served in various roles, including Head of Department at the Deapartment of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (now known as College of Design and Engineering). In Sep 2019, he joined the Singapore Institute of Technology (SiT) as their Deputy President (Academic) and Provost. He was promoted to President in 2022. Prof Chua made a gift in 2017 in memory of his late mother, Mdm Pung Gek Tiang.

Faculty of Engineering - Quantedge Foundation Bursary (2018)

Quantedge Foundation (Singapore) Ltd was established in 2015 to support a wide range of charitable causes in Singapore. In 2017, the Foundation established this sub-named endowed bursary at the Faculty of Engineering for deserving, needy students. This financial support allows the students to pursue their studies without financial strain and participate fully in value-added experiential learning programmes. This bursary reflects the Foundation’s commitment to enable equal access to quality higher education for everyone.

Faculty of Engineering - Ting Ah Swee Bursary (2023)

The late Mr Ting Ah Swee, founder of Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant, had contributed generously to many charitable organisations such as the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution, National Kidney Foundation, National Cancer Centre, Ren Ci Hospital, and Children's Cancer Foundation. in 2022, Mr Ting's family established this bursary in honour of the late Mr Ting.

Faculty of Engineering - TW-Asia Bursary (2020)

Incorporated in 2013, TW-Asia Consultants Pte Ltd is a Singapore-registered company that offers engineering design, consultancy and other specialized construction services. In 2020, Er. Wong Seng, Executive Directo and Chief Executive Officer established this sub-named bursary as financial aid for needy undergraduates enrolled in NUS Engineering.

Faculty of Engineering - Win Financial Group Bursary (2022)

Ms Winnie Cheah (Business '92) is the Master District Director of Win Financial Group and she sees great fulfilment in transforming ordinary individuals into successful people by making a positive impact to their lives professionally and personally. For that reason, she established this bursary in 2021. Being in a needy situation before, Ms Cheah hopes that she can encourage students to take charge of their own destiny, pursue their passions, succeed in their careers, and eventually pay it forward by contributing back to society.

Mr Wong Ngit Liong is the Chairman and CEO of the Venture Group, a leading global provider of technology products, services and solutions. In 2017, he established this bursary to provide deserving students with the opportunity to study engineering at NUS.
