MoU signed to boost ties with Huazhong University of Science and Technology
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between NUS and China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on expanding collaboration between the two institutions in education, research and commercialising technologies and innovations.
The MOU signing ceremony took place at CDE on March 13, during a visit by a delegation from HUST to NUS. The agreement expands on previous educational and academic collaborations between the two institutions dating back to 1992.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Susanna Leong, NUS Vice Provost for Master’s Programmes & Lifelong Education, said that under the MOU the two universities would “continue to leverage on our respective strengths and comparative advantages to complement each other’s strategic work”.
This would focus primarily on four areas, namely: Mechanical Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.
“I am confident that by working together, HUST and NUS will offer our prospective students better learning experiences and more promising career paths,” Prof Leong said.
Alongside the MOU signing CDE’s Department of Mechanical Engineering signed two department-level “3+1+1” Joint Educational Framework agreements with HUST School of Mechanical Science and Engineering and School of Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
The “3+1+1” framework allows HUST students to complete their final year of undergraduate studies at NUS by attending courses and a research project, and thereafter to pursue a Master of Science programme at NUS.
Professor Aaron Thean, Dean of the NUS College of Design and Engineering, expressed his desire for future collaborations between the two universities. Professor Jianfeng Xu, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education at the HUST School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, affirmed his commitment to continued cooperation in research and education over the coming years.
The delegation from HUST was led by Professor Jianguo Chen, Vice President for International Affairs.
