ANDREEVA-Baeumler, Daria

Associate Professor

MSE

Daria V. Andreeva-Baeumler is an Assoc. Professor in the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials https://ifim.nus.edu.sg/people/daria-v-andreeva/ and MSE NUS. Daria has authored more than 100 research papers including papers in Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communication and Advanced Materials and received various fellowships (e.g. Alexander von Humboldt and UNESCO). She worked on smart anticorrosion coatings and encapsulation techniques in Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. Having finished her habilitation, she joined the Centre for Soft and Living Matter, South Korea.

Research Interests

Daria explores electrochemical phenomena in self-assembled, stimuli-responsive nanostructures for applications in smart membranes, green energy solutions, and healthcare. Her primary focus is on inorganic-organic composites that enable regulated molecular transport and conversion for phase-changing, gating, and catalytic membranes within Self-Driving Laboratories and AI-integrated systems. Her research has applications in:

  • E-waste management
  • Bioelectrochemistry
  • Carbon capture and conversion
  • Anticorrosion
  • Desalinization
  • Sensors & Actuators

Teaching and Service

Daria is a passionate proponent for interdisciplinary learning and believes in the importance of incorporating practical applications and real-world examples to growth a cohort of skilled professionals. Daria is the coordinator for the I-FIM – DSO Graduate Sponsorship Program and the I-FIM Training Program for High-School and Exchange Students.

During lockdown in 2021, Daria has volunteered her time and expertise to organize education webinars in collaboration with the Acronis Cyber Foundation. These webinars are specially designed for children who do not have easy access to traditional education facilities.
