We are turning 30!
Materials Science Programme begin in 1992 with just four academic staff. Today, with 55 dedicated faculty members, state-of-the-art facilities spanning over 4,000 m², and SGD 125 million in active research funding, the department of Materials Science and Engineering has grown tremendously and continues to lead advancements in materials science education and research.
Our achievements have been recognised globally, with Materials Science & Engineering at NUS ranked 2nd in the world and 1st in Asia in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Our graduates are also among the most sought-after in Asia, reflecting the strength and relevance of our programme.
As we celebrate this important milestone, we remain committed to advancing materials research for societal impact and to nurturing the next generation of materials engineers and scientists who will drive tomorrow’s technological breakthroughs.
