On September 21, 2026, the KAIST–NUS MSE Joint Workshop was successfully held at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), bringing together faculty and researchers from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS-MSE) for a day of scientific exchange and discussion.
The workshop opened with introductions to the two departments by Prof. Byungha Shin Head of KAIST MSE and Prof. Jun Min Xue, Head of NUS MSE, providing an overview of their respective research strengths and activities. Through presentations by researchers from both institutions, the workshop covered a broad range of emerging topics, including 2D semiconductor integration and transistors, spintronics, integrated quantum photonics, AI-driven materials design, catalyst development, CO₂ electrolysis, electrochemical ammonia synthesis, and solid electrolytes. Representing NUS MSE, Prof. Lain-Jong (Lance) Li, Prof. Shyue Ping Ong, Asst. Prof. Ahmet Avsar, Asst. Prof. Zhu Di, Asst. Prof. Wan Yi and Asst. Prof. Xianbiao Fu shared their latest research and engaged with KAIST colleagues.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for researchers from KAIST and NUS to exchange ideas, identify areas of complementary expertise, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. Through active discussions across a diverse range of materials science topics, the event further strengthened the academic ties between the two departments and laid the groundwork for continued research exchange and collaboration.
