Jihang YU

Lecturer

Assistant Dean of Student Life (CDE)

MSE

Yu Jihang received her bachelor’s degree with first class honours from National University of Singapore, department of Material Science and Engineering. She continued with her Ph.D. in the same department and graduated. Her research interest is high perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropic (PMA) material for spintronic devices. Her work is the first to realize SOT switching in a single-layer, metallic PMA material.

Before joining NUS as a lecturer, she served as a principal process integration (PI) engineer in Technology and Development (TD) department of GlobalFoundries Singapore. She worked on the back end of line (BEOL) process integration for STTMRAM development and production.

Her teaching philosophy centers on nurturing independent, next-generation engineers who think critically, adapt confidently, and continue learning beyond the classroom. Over the past few years. she has taught a wide range of  courses in Materials Science and Engineering, spanning undergraduate and PhD levels, and covering both core and elective modules.

She also serves as a Residential Fellow at Prince George’s Park Residences, where she mentors student leaders, promotes residents’ well-being, and supports students seeking guidance. In addition, she serves as Assistant Dean of Student Life in the College of Design and Engineering, contributing to student development and welfare at both the college and university levels.
