A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between CDE and the Army Safety Inspectorate (ASI), expanding the partnership between the two institutions into the area of research and technology.

The partnership will tap CDE’s capabilities to support the advancement of knowledge, the development of innovative solutions and the application of technologies to enhance safety across the Army.

This partnership will focus on three key areas:

  • Data Analytics and Predictive Modelling
  • Advanced Materials and Equipment
  • and Autonomous Systems and Robotics

The MOU signing ceremony took place at CDE on 27 March 2024, in the presence of Brigadier General Andrew Lim, Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, and Professor Teo Kie Leong, Dean-Designate of CDE.

The agreement expands on the MOU signed in May 2023 between the Ministry of Defence and NUS School of Continuing and Lifelong Education, which aimed to strengthen the expertise of trainers in the Singapore Army through NUS courses such as Data Analytics and Psychological Sciences.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Associate Professor Benjamin Tee Chee Keong, Vice Dean (Research and Industry) at CDE, said: “The MOU will create further opportunities for projects of mutual interest to both NUS and ASI, as well as bring about a greater exchange of knowledge and talent between NUS and ASI, thereby collectively strengthening our innovation base and human capital.

Colonel Mohamed Feroz, Head, ASI who signed the MOU, said that going forward the partnership with NUS will help “strengthen the Army’s mastery of safety, health and environmental practices.”

He added: “The signing of the MOU today marks a major milestone for our Army to be exceptional in safety. I look forward to exciting times in our upcoming collaborative efforts to strengthen our Army’s safety system so that every Singaporean soldier will always go home safely.”
