Prof Liu Bin, Provost's Chair and NUS Senior Vice Provost (Faculty & Institutional Development), has been elected a member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Prof Liu, who is also head of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NUS, was elected to the body in recognition of her work "bringing organic electronic materials into aqueous media, opening new directions in biomedicine, environmental monitoring, sensors, and electronic devices" the NAE said in an announcement.
She is among 22 international members elected to the body in 2022.
In its announcement, the NAE said membership honours those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
Commenting, Prof Liu said: "I am very honoured to be elected to the US NAE. This is a recognition of our high-quality research conducted at NUS. I am deeply grateful to NUS where I obtained my PhD degree and built my career. I take this opportunity to thank my research team and collaborators, and all those who have supported and inspired me throughout my career so far."
