Professor Ho Ghim Wei (Electrical and Computer Engineering) has been named the recipient of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC)-AsCA2019 Singapore Award for Distinguished Woman Chemist 2026.

The award recognises her contributions across a research programme spanning chemistry, materials science and engineering.

The official award citation noted Prof Ho’s “outstanding contributions to a chemistry-centred approach that bridges fundamental mechanisms and engineered systems, enabling the rational design of functional materials and devices with broad impact across energy, environmental, electronic, and healthcare applications.”

Prof Ho’s research focuses on understanding and engineering interfacial interactions in low-dimensional and hybrid functional materials, using these insights to develop new technologies with potential applications in sustainable energy, environmental remediation, electronics and healthcare.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this award from the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my students, postdoctoral fellows, collaborators, and colleagues over many years,” said Prof Ho.

“I hope our work continues to demonstrate how fundamental chemistry can be translated into solutions that address important societal and sustainability challenges.”

The award will be presented at the 13th Singapore International Chemistry Conference in December 2026.
