NUS SDE4 receives international recognition for building features designed to improve health and wellness
NUS has been awarded the WELL Certification at the Gold level by the International WELL Building Institute for its SDE4 building. The building is the first university building in the world to achieve WELL Certified™ Gold, and the first building in Singapore to be conferred this prestigious WELL Certification.
Making biopsies less invasive and more informative
A team of NUS researchers has developed a novel technology that could sensitively and accurately detect and classify cancer cells, as well as determine the disease aggressiveness from the least invasive biopsies. With this new technology called STAMP (Sequence-Topology Assembly for Multiplexed Profiling), comprehensive disease information can be obtained faster, at a much earlier stage […]
Green & Sustainable Buildings: Singapore zero-energy building: A prototype of sustainable design

CleaNUS Project 2019: Behind the uniform
NUS students spend a significant amount of their time on campus, so much so that the University often feels like a “second” home where their studies and play have become intertwined. In this second home, how often does the community stop and appreciate the cleaners who are seen pushing their cleaning carts? Do they […]
Carbon dioxide capture technologies to mitigate global warming
Associate Professor Praveen Linga from NUS Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering highlights the importance of mitigating carbon dioxide emissions as Singapore begins its post-pandemic recovery, and discusses the future potential of carbon capture technology. Read More
‘Smart’ clothing that boosts wearable tech connectivity and battery life by 1,000 times
Most of today’s wearable devices are singularly connected to a user’s smartphone and transmit data via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi signals. These waves radiate outwards in all directions and most of the energy is lost to the surrounding area. This drastically reduces the efficiency of the wearable technology as most of its battery life is consumed […]
Harvesting clean water from moist air
Huge amounts of water evaporate from water surfaces such as reservoirs and the open sea each day. To address this issue, especially in water scarce areas, researchers from NUS found an innovative way to harvest water from the humid air above water surfaces. The solution lies in a unique zinc-based water-absorbing hydrogel that was developed last […]
Dr Praveen Linga elected Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry
Associate Professor Praveen Linga from NUS Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering has been elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry for his contribution in the field of chemical sciences. The Royal Society of Chemistry is one of the oldest and most reputed professional bodies headquartered in the United Kingdom. Associate Professor Linga is currently the […]
NUS scientists discover how to ‘lock’ heat in place
Rotated at 0.5 rpm, the experimental system on the left shows the hottest (white) part of the ring is fixed at the bottom as it moves. The reference on the right shows the hottest part of the ring moving in conjunction with its motion A ground-breaking study conducted by researchers from NUS Electrical and Computer […]
Groundbreaking new blood test for Alzheimer’s disease
Doctors may one day be able to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of severe dementia, and monitor a patient’s response to treatment by doing a simple blood test. This could be made possible using the APEX (Amplified Plasmonic EXosome) system invented by researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Designed to […]
