Innovation Programme (EG2604) aims to provide undergraduates with an experiential experience in a semester-long innovative activity, where they find and solve problems on their own, to make our world a better place to live in!
Why EG2604?
EG2604 offers you a unique opportunity to work on a project that interests you. You may have always wanted to do something about “things” you felt could have been better. This is your chance to find a solution to these problems and make an impact. On successful completion of the module, it is expected that besides advancing your technical skills, you will improve on your soft skills – logical and critical thinking, communications, peer learning and resourcefulness. Aided by University resources and guided by experienced mentors, you can expect a memorable undergraduate experience taking EG2604.
Who can take this module?
EG2604, a 4 MC module, is open to students from all levels who are pursuing full-time undergraduate studies in NUS. For College of Design and Engineering (CDE) students, the MCs for this module will be counted towards the unrestricted elective requirement of the Bachelor’s degree. For non-CDE students, the MCs for this module will be counted towards the unrestricted elective/breadth requirement of the Bachelor’s degree.
What do you go through in this module?
- Problem finding – using “irritation”
- Problem exploration – vicinity of the problem: who, what, why, where, how?
- Problem formulation – scoping to an achievable target
- Research strategy – review of related works and critical evaluations
- Idea generation – methods, evaluations, peer reviews and incubation
- Demonstration – development of prototype or demonstrable system
- Presentations – convincing and selling the value and feasibility of the idea, procedure, or device
How is the module structured?
EG2604 seeks to offer active learning towards a fruitful outcome. You can work on the project individually or as a group (maximum two students). If working in a group, it is recommended that the members be from different departments/faculties. Each group is provided with a budget of S$250 for their project.
