New Faculty and Staff

Dr Rosita Samsudin
Dean’s Office (NUS Cities)

Before joining NUS Cities, Dr Samsudin was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Tokyo College, The University of Tokyo. She received her PhD in Architecture (2021) from the National University of Singapore, Master of Architecture (2014) from the Tsinghua University, Master of Building Science (2009) from the National University of Singapore, and Bachelor of Architecture Engineering (2003) from the Parahyangan Catholic University. Her research focuses on human and nature interactions, social dimensions of urban nature, the values of nature in cities, communal housing in cities, and evidence-based urban design approaches. She has taught at The University of Tokyo and the Singapore University of Social Sciences.  She has been a practising architect with projects in Singapore and Indonesia. During her free time, she likes to go trekking or get herself lost in cities. She practises traditional kintsugi, a Japanese art of fixing broken pottery/porcelain.

Mr Chee Thiam Heng, Manager (Environmental Health & Safety)
Department of Mechanical Engineering

Wesley is a qualified safety officer with experience in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, construction, and oil & gas industries. Wesley has a practical approach to improving workplace safety and health performance. He would benchmark laboratories’ safety practices and share the best approaches.

Mr Fariq Bin Said
Assistant Manager, Dean’s Office (Communications & Marketing)

Fariq has a degree in Information Systems Management from Singapore Management University and a diploma in Business Informatics from Nanyang Polytechnic. He has worked as a media analyst at Meltwater and managed creative asset pipelines at Lucasfilm. For the past two years, he managed content for Zuju Digital, a start-up, where he was responsible for in-product copywriting, social media planning, execution, and analysis. At CDE, he will focus on improving CDE’s web and social media presence, setting up systems for managing creative assets, social media and web analytics, media tracking, and supporting the profiling of alumni and our donors/partners.

Ms Song Peizhi
Senior Executive, Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering

Prior to her current position, Peizhi worked in healthcare administration, providing support to medical professionals. In ECE, she assumes the role of providing administrative assistance to current research student matters.

Mr Kwan Wei Yang Jerrell
Executive, Dean’s Office (Office of Student Life)

Jerrell recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in counselling from the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He is deeply committed to advancing the mental health and well-being of individuals. With a strong belief in the significance of mental wellness, he has enthusiastically joined the Office of Student Life – Care & Growth team to contribute his expertise and support their initiatives.

Mr Patrick Tan Shoong Chin
Laboratory Technologist, Dean’s Office (Engineering Design and Innovation Centre)

Before joining NUS, Patrick worked at PSA Corporation Ltd as a trainee technical specialist and a service engineer for over twelve years and in another private sector as a service engineer for over a year. He has extensive experience working with various sensors, code-reading devices, and track & trace systems. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and a Diploma in Computer Networking from Singapore Polytechnic.

Mr Kamal Bin Berjo
Management Assistant Officer, Dean’s Office (Office of Undergraduate Programmes)

Kamal brings with him a wealth of experience as an adult trainer and educator in diverse industries, and he will be playing an instrumental role in supporting the various prospective student outreach and engagement events & programmes by the CDE outreach team.

Management Updates

Professor Saif Abdul Kadir Khan has been appointed as Head of Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering effective 1 March 2024.

Retirement

The following colleagues have their last day of service on 29 February 2024. We thank them for their contributions and wish them all the best!

  • Mrs Ooi-Toh Chew Hoey, Laboratory Technologist, Department of Mechanical Engineering
    Mrs Ooi has been a reliable employee; someone we could always count on. Her creative and innovative thinking have made a significant impact, and her long service speaks volumes about her dedication. As she embarks on her retirement journey, we know that her hard work and achievements have set a standard that may never be matched. Her absence will be felt, but her well-deserved retirement is cause for celebration. Wishing Mrs Ooi all the happiness and fulfilment in this new chapter of her life. You will be dearly missed!
  • Mr Looi Siew Wah, Laboratory Technologist, Department of Mechanical Engineering 
    Mr. Looi’s long service and dedication to excellence have been truly commendable. Throughout his time with us, he had consistently demonstrated responsibility and a commitment to completing his work with excellence and on time. His teamwork and collaborative spirit have been invaluable to our team. Congratulations on Mr Looi’s well-deserved retirement! It's hard to imagine our workplace without him. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and the lasting impact he had made at the Fluid Lab. His contributions will always be remembered and cherished.
