FACULTY AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Prof Lam Khee Poh appointed Ewha Global Fellow

Professor Lam Khee Poh has been appointed an Ewha Global Fellow for 2024-2026. The Ewha Global Fellow (EGF) programme encourages distinguished scholars from all over the world to actively collaborate in research and education with Ewha faculty members

Ewha Womans University is a private women's research university in Seoul, South Korea. It has challenged the boundaries of higher education for women since its establishment in 1886. This appointment was in recognition of Prof Lam's collaboration with Professor Ji Hyun Park of the Department of Architecture.

Professor Lam says of his experience with Ewha, “My last visit to Ewha on 21 Nov 2023 was very memorable. I lectured and interacted with the architecture students, including two exchange students from NUS. I look forward to working with Prof Jihyun Park and her colleagues to explore new opportunities for collaboration on education and research programmes.”

Asst Prof Pieremanuele Canepa wins ACS award for battery study

Assistant Professor Pieremanuele Canepa  has been awarded the American Chemical Society (ACS) Chemistry of Materials 2023 Best Paper Award for a groundbreaking study on batteries.

His paper, Devil is in the Defects: Electronic Conductivity in Solid Electrolytes, challenges the traditional approach to solid-state batteries, treating them not just as ion conductors but also as electronic semiconductors.

Asst Prof Canepa collaborated with a diverse team of researchers in Singapore, the US and the Netherlands, and their work has been recognised for its innovative approach to addressing both ionic and electronic conductivities simultaneously.

The fresh perspective taken by the paper is expected to improve the design of solid electrolytes, making all-solid-state batteries more efficient.

According to the journal, the award honours the authors of an article published in 2021 or 2022 that has outstanding influence in the field of materials chemistry. It also aims to highlight the importance of collaborative efforts across disciplines in advancing scientific breakthroughs.
