Who is eligible to apply?

• CDE employees with significant teaching role and impact are welcome to apply. The Chair of CTEC would exercise discretion on the eligibility of applicants.

What is the maximum grant amount?

• There is no cap on the budget for each proposal, as long as it falls within the limit of $100,000 set aside for this grant. However, it should be noted that the intent is to fund multiple proposals.

How will the awarded funds be given to the grant recipients?

• The awarded funds will be disbursed directly to a project WBS to be drawn by the Principal Investigator for the project. Specific details will be provided to the Principal Investigator upon approval of the grant application.

If I have applied for the Teaching Enhancement Grant - Learning Improvement Projects (TEG-LIP) which is managed by the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), can I still apply for the CDE Teaching Transformation Grant (CDE TTG) within the same fiscal year?

• It is not possible to apply for both the CDE TTG and the TEG-LIP for the same project. Applicants must select only one grant to apply for per project to ensure fair and equitable distribution of resources.

How long is the project duration?

• The maximum duration of grant is 12 months.

Is it possible to request an extension of the maximum timeline of the grant?

• The Principal Investigator should make every effort to complete the project by the project completion date as all projects must complete within the grant validity period of 12 months. The grant will no longer be valid after the completion date of the project.

Does each proposed project / application form apply to only one course, or can it be across multiple courses?

• Each proposed project can be designed to apply to either a single course or across multiple courses. This flexibility allows applicants to tailor their projects to best fit their educational goals and the needs of their students. Only one application form is needed to be submitted if the proposed project applies across multiple courses.

What are the items that are not supported for CDE TTG funding?

• The following items are not supported for CDE TTG funding:
  • Consumables (e.g., stationery, ink cartridges, printing / photocopying of teaching materials, reference books, etc.)
  • Equipment that is available in the department (e.g., personal computer, laptops, printers, video cameras, mobile phones, hard disks, USB flash drives, etc.)
  • Publication costs
  • Costs for organising symposium workshops
  • Creation of teaching materials that do not incorporate AI technologies (Note: This grant is not intended to support the teaching of AI as a subject. It is to adapt teaching materials to make them AI enabled)
  • Costs for teaching support and / or secretariat support
  • Field trips for students

Who owns the equipment / software purchased with the CDE TTG fund?

• The ownership of equipment / software purchased using the CDE TTG funding stays with the department of the Principal Investigator after completion of the project. Applicants should be prepared to provide quotations to support the cost of the equipment / software when requested.

Is IRB review and approval required for the proposed project?

• If there are no experiments involved, IRB review and approval is not necessary. However, if experiments are part of the proposed project, it should be reviewed by a Department Ethics Review Committee (DERC) set up by the College of Design and Engineering.

What are the deliverables after the completion of the project?

• After the completion of the project, the Principal Investigator needs to:
  • Submit a one-page report summarising the project via email to ai_khim@nus.edu.sg
  • Submit a project Statement of Account within one month after the project completion date to NUS Office of Finance and return any unutilised balance funds from the grant.
  • Share the outcomes of the project with the CDE community.
