Imbued with Beauty: Building Construction as Ways of Expression

The material expressions, created in a collaborative process between the hands and tools, mark their distinctive qualities. Resources come together, remembered as imprints, marks, and details. The laborious process in making works of architecture is experimented and learned, afterwards thoroughly mastered by a dedicated assemblage of people.

Can this tender work of architecture challenge normative limitations that are inherent in its settings, namely the developing context, and generously questions the role of knowledge transfer in building construction?

Work of art is considered successful when its expression is received with by its viewers. Can work of architecture, likewise, be considered effective in its ability to capture and retain precise qualities of attention?

Spatial understanding and sensitivities are innate to us as human beings. The creation of spaces and places are thus also imbued with the same human sensitivities and qualities. These underlying expressions in architecture characterize our innate sense of belonging, situating us in our connection with the environment. As we find ourselves completed in the spaces of architecture, those spaces, likewise, are as well completed with us.

Peeraya Suphasidh is a licensed member of Architect Council of Thailand, holding her Bangkok-based design and research practice Suphasidh Architects. The term ‘spatial optimism’ best describes her method of working, trusting that works of architecture is the medium through which life is experienced. It has the potential to positively shape the environment and our shared lived experiences. This tender work is achieved through the mastery of material expression, building performance, and a deep understanding of the human conditions

Peeraya received her Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design. She holds a post-professional Master of Architecture II from Harvard GSD.
