Lobbying for Architecture

This talk will cover the work of The Architecture Lobby, an activist organization that “lobbies” for the value of architecture in the public and in the profession itself. Begun in 2013 in New York City, it has evolved into an organization trying to transform, on many fronts, the valuation of architecture work.

The hope is less to persuade attendees that The Architecture Lobby is fabulous than consider it as AN example – flawed but ongoing – of organising architects to think more expansively about their expertise and its relevance.

Peggy Deamer is Professor Emerita of Yale School of Architecture, a founding member of The Architecture Lobby, and principal of the firm Deamer Studio. She is the editor of Architecture and Capitalism: 1845 to the Present and The Architect as Worker: Immaterial Labor, the Creative Class, and the Politics of Design, the author of Architecture and Labor, and a co-author of The Organizer’s Guide to Architecture Education.
