The Department extends its heartfelt appreciation to Associate Professor Fung John Chye for his many years of dedicated service to NUS. Since joining us in 1998, Associate Professor Fung has been a deeply valued member of our community, progressing from part-time tutor to Adjunct faculty and, ultimately, Associate Professor in Practice. Over the years, he has touched the lives of countless students, bringing to the studio not only his expertise as a registered architect, but also a generosity of spirit and a passion for nurturing the next generation of architects.  At NUS, his contributions have been both wide-ranging and deeply impactful. He has been instrumental in advancing research and education in ageing, healthcare design, and high-density urban living, areas of growing importance to Singapore and beyond. Through his leadership of key initiatives, including the Centre for Ageing Research in the Environment (CARE), the Centre for Sustainable Asian Cities (CSAC) and Centre for Environment and Ageing Well (ENgAGE), he has helped position the University at the forefront of interdisciplinary research that addresses real-world societal challenges.

Beyond his formal roles, colleagues and students alike have benefited from his wisdom, mentorship, and steadfast commitment to excellence. His ability to bridge practice, research, and teaching has left a lasting imprint on the Department and the wider NUS community. As he embarks on his next chapter, we celebrate his remarkable contributions and thank him for the legacy he leaves behind. We wish Associate Professor Fung all the very best in his retirement.

The Department extends its heartfelt appreciation to Professor Joseph Lim Ee Man for his many years of distinguished service to the National University of Singapore, as he retires on 30 June 2026. Since joining the University in 1985, he has devoted more than four decades to advancing architectural education, research, and practice at NUS. We are also delighted that he will continue his association with the University as Emeritus Professor with effect from 1 July 2026, an honour that reflects his exceptional contributions and enduring impact on the University and the discipline. Over the course of his remarkable career, he has been a deeply respected educator, researcher, and leader. He has played a pivotal role in shaping architectural education at NUS, inspiring generations of students with his intellectual curiosity, design innovation, and commitment to excellence. His dedication to teaching has been recognised with the College of Design and Engineering Teaching Excellence Award in 2024, while the many prestigious awards won by his students at both local and international levels stand as a testament to his mentorship and guidance. His work is distinguished by its forward-looking and interdisciplinary approach to architecture and infrastructure. His research on prototypical structures addressing emerging spatial and environmental challenges, including pioneering work on floating settlements and the adaptive reuse of marine structures, has gained international recognition. His publication, Oil Rig and Superbarge Floating Settlements, published by Springer, has been widely referenced and exhibited internationally, underscoring the global relevance and impact of his scholarship.

A strong advocate of design research, he has led innovative, industry-supported studios in collaboration with agencies such as JTC and MPA, advancing new ideas in land intensification, urban infrastructure, and future settlement models. His work has directly contributed to national-level conversations on urban development, including forward-looking studies on Tuas Port and other major infrastructure initiatives. Beyond academia, he has also made significant contributions to professional practice and public service. He played a leading role in post-tsunami rebuilding efforts in Aceh, Indonesia, and has received numerous accolades, including the National Day Award and the Ministry of National Development Award, in recognition of his dedicated service and leadership to both the profession and society. Within NUS, he has held important leadership roles, including serving as Vice Dean and Programme Director for both undergraduate and graduate programmes. Through these roles, he has shaped curriculum, strengthened academic programmes, and contributed to the strategic development of the Department and the broader College. Colleagues and students alike have benefited from his vision, generosity, and unwavering commitment to advancing the discipline. His ability to integrate research, practice, and education has left an enduring legacy on the Department and the wider architectural community.

As he embarks on this next chapter, we celebrate not only a distinguished career spanning over four decades at NUS, but also the profound and lasting impact he has made on generations of students, colleagues, and the profession. We thank him deeply for his service, warmly congratulate him on his appointment as Emeritus Professor, and wish him continued success and fulfilment in the years ahead.
