Distinguished Lecture Series
The Ong Siew May Distinguished Lecture Series, funded from the Ong Siew May Professorship fund, was launched as part of the Department of Architecture’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2008 on the theme “Sustainability”. These lectures are a series of conversations that move interior and exterior to the realm of architecture, landscape and design. Probing into nature, density, tectonics, environment, growth, urbanism and craft, architecture’s complex relationship with its ability to sustain is brought to bear. These four distinct lectures will open up, challenge, and enrich the way we think about sustainability; to challenge our assumptions of architecture and its seeming ability to change our environment.
The speakers were
– Mr Huat Lim / ZLGDesign (Malaysia) on “Durability” / 12.09.2008
– Mr Rick Joy / Rick Joy Architects (USA) on “Suitability” / 31.10.2008
– Mr Marc Simmons / Front Inc (USA) on “Constructability” / 07.11.2008
– Mr Winy Maas / MVRDV (Netherlands) on “Radicality” / 09.12.2008
