Master of Urban Planning

There is one intake per academic year in August. Applications to the Master of Urban Planning programme for the August 2024 intake are open between 1 October 2023 and 31 March 2024. For early consideration, students should aim to submit their applications by 31 December 2023, and outstanding candidates can expect to receive an offer as early as February 2024. Applicants who submit by 31 January 2024 can expect to receive offers in early March. The results of later applications will be released by the end of May.

While most offers will be made to early applications by March 2024, some may still receive an offer at a later date. The Department takes care to look at the applications as a cohort and will review all submitted applications together where necessary.

Candidates are selected on the basis of their academic qualifications and relevant experience. Candidates must submit the following:

  • Evidence of a bachelor’s degree in a spatial design discipline (architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban planning) or a related field of study (environmental studies, geography, real estate, civil engineering, land management). • A detailed curriculum vitae and, if relevant, a project portfolio.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by means of TOEFL / IELTS test scores. This requirement may be waived if applicants have completed their degree programme taught entirely in English, situated in an English speaking country, for example (non exhaustive list) Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, USA.
