Winner of the architecture competition for Hwarang Sports Complex Center and Park Design in Ansan City, South Korea. The proposal consists of two Sports Centers totaling 3600m2 and 18000m2 landscape and outdoor sports facilities.

This project is to design a complex sports center and park in Hwarang-park, located in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.  We maintained the existing park ways and connected the flow of visitors coming by car and public transportation to the ways.

We suggested spaces where visitors can create various stories by planning various programs around the ways.  Also, we firstly separated two sports centers, for basketball and tennis, with different features, and we proposed different forms with the concept of “compensation”.  The shapes of buildings have been proposed with RC and air-dome structural systems.  For the gym, we proposed open slide windows on the ceiling for natural ventilation and natural indirect lighting. In a sense, we focused on the systems and safety for the design of the air-dome tennis building.

The most important point of this project is not only the harmony between the park and the building, but also a pleasant environment for playing sports.
