Tun Tan Cheng Lock Traveling Research Award
We are pleased to invite you to apply for the competitive Tun Tan Cheng Lock Traveling Research Award to conduct a study on architectural and urban heritage in a South-East Asian country.
For BA Arch Y3 / M.Arch 1 & M.Arch Y2 applicants:
Spending part of your time at the Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Asian Architectural and Urban Heritage in Melaka is preferred but not compulsory. One B. A. Arch Year 3 student and one M. Arch 2 student will be selected for this award. If you are successful in your application, the travel and research must take place between 1 August 2024 and 3 March 2025.
Submission Criteria
- Statement of purpose, outcome, and how the chosen topic of study on architectural and urban heritage in the South-East Asian country will support your project.
- Samples of studio work.
- Transcript
- Budget breakdown.
- Trip itinerary. Indicate the trip dates and places you plan to visit.
Submit the above in a maximum 10-page PDF document. The maximum file size is 10 MB.
Deliverables
You are expected to deliver the following after the trip’s completion. The selection committee will discuss and confirm with you the date for the public sharing.
- A public sharing of your research findings.
- A maximum 3-minute video summarising the research findings.
- An A4 digital report.
Submission Deadline
18 August 2025 at 12 noon.
Travel Amount
A minimum of S$1,500 and a maximum of S$6,000
Announcement of Result
5th Sept 2025 at 12 noon.

For PG [M.AArC MUP MAUD MSc. ISD MLA] & PhD programme (PhD) applicants:
We are pleased to invite you to apply for the competitive Tun Tan Cheng Lock Traveling Research Award to conduct a study related to disciplines of the built environment, such as environmental design, landscape architecture, urban and architectural heritage & management, urban studies or urban planning. Two students will be selected for this award. If you are successful in your application, the travel and research must take place before 3 March 2026.
