ACA20 Student Jamboree: Embracing Multiculturalism and Sharing Innovative Design Ideas

The ARCASIA Conference on Architectural Education (ACA20) brought together architecture students and professionals from across Asia for a vibrant Student Jamboree. In conjunction with the main conference, the Student Jamboree was a celebration of multiculturalism and a platform for sharing innovative design ideas. In this year’s edition, two of our students, Faith Yeo and Vedika Gupta, along with two students from SUTD, proudly represented Singapore at the Student Jamboree. Set against the stunning backdrop of Boracay Island in the Philippines, the ACA20 Student Jamboree took place from 18th to 22nd September 2023. As student delegates from the National University of Singapore, our journey at the 2023 ARCASIA Conference on Architectural Education (ACA20) and its accompanying Student Jamboree was an extraordinary cultural and architectural odyssey. What made this experience stand out was the unique opportunity to connect with fellow students and professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering a deep appreciation for the architectural wealth of Asia.

It was a vibrant blend of cultural integration and the sharing of architectural knowledge. It allowed us to learn from experienced architects and fellow students representing different corners of Asia. The event emphasized the cultural exchange and networking opportunities it offered. We celebrated our differences and gained a deeper understanding of how culture and tradition influence architectural creativity.

The Jamboree was a cultural and architectural revelation, shaping our understanding of architecture as a global language. It instilled in us the significance of cross-cultural understanding and teamwork, making us better prepared for the multifaceted world of architecture. This event transcended boundaries, leaving an enduring mark on our personal and professional growth.
