Memu Workshop 2026

(Re)reading Forest, Tracing Trees, Regional Atlas

Over the course of ten days, nine students from DOA and nine students from the University of Tokyo explored the region surrounding the Memu Open Research Campus, Hokkaido, Japan through a series of curated, fieldwork experiences based on the thematic of (Re)reading Forest: Tracing Trees.

This is the fourth collaboration between the University of Tokyo and the National University of Singapore as part of the Memu Earth Lab (Re)reading Workshop. We enjoyed testing our disciplinary engagement through an embodied relationship with a region.

Day 7 Ferment: Dairy Farm c/o Sakane Farm

Day 8 Final Presentation of Atlas

Through collaborative and interdisciplinary methods students created an atlas made through sensorial, multimodal descriptions. The collaboratively created atlas was a contribution to a multi-year body of knowledge.
