Current BLA Students speak about their experience in NUS.

NUS BLA student Clara Choo shares her experience in design studio, designing spaces in her own unique way. Using air dry clay, Clara crafts outdoor spaces that are cognizant of the sensibilities and playful nature of children, stimulating their vivid imagination. In her spare time, Clara designs and crafts bespoke clay trinkets. This passion was cleverly weaved into the landscape design process so that she could find new ways to express herself in a medium she was familiar with. Check out her awesome works at @theconifercone on Instagram.

Testimonials

Mariam Yusuf Rajkotwala – Current BLA student

“Being a part of BLA has been a thrilling experience where the curriculum seamlessly blends theory and hands-on experiences, allowing us to cultivate an understanding of creating landscapes for all. Whether it’s designing spaces that win the hearts of communities or addressing environmental and social challenges, the programme exposes us to the skills and knowledge required for the multifaceted role of a Landscape Architect by encouraging creativity and critical thinking in a collaborative learning environment.

The profession opens our eyes to issues such as climate change and environmental protection – all of which play a crucial part in creating a world for the future. BLA drives me to confront these challenges, contributing meaningfully, and I am determined to be a part of that change.”

Tan Sok Vin – BLA alumni

“I was part of the inaugural cohort of BLA students at NUS, graduated in 2023 and currently working as a full-time landscape architect and project manager at COEN Design International. The curriculum and programmes during my three years at NUS definitely enriched my resourcefulness as a landscape architect. The integration of data, maps, and various software tools that were taught in school has trained me to identify possibilities and improvements within projects and in the field. While my role as a project manager doesn’t include direct involvement in design production all the time, the knowledge and experiences gained through the BLA programme have been extremely useful in fostering a mindset that encourages the ‘out of the box’ thinking while keeping it logical and manageable alongside the client’s needs.”

LEONARD CAI
MLA
Class of 2010

Deputy Director (Landscape Design Office), HDB

The search for true harmony between nature and the man-made environment has become ever more pressing as the world continues to rapidly urbanize. The well-calibrated MLA programme has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to unlock the full potential of every site, creating sustainable, liveable and resilient landscapes that contribute towards greater environmental health and human well-being.

ANNA YAP
MLA
Class of 2013

Senior Landscape Architect (Accredited), Stephen Caffyn Landscape Design

Choosing to pursue landscape architecture is one of my best life decision. I get to be involved in integrating the urban city fabric with natural systems and bringing people closer to nature. The NUS MLA programme got us to understand site issues hands-on and nurture us to draw up practical and innovative design solutions.

YAZID NINSALAM (PhD)
MLA
Class of 2012

Lecturer (Landscape Architecture), RMIT University

I have all these memories of the diverse places we travelled as a cohort. Together we learnt the necessity of experiencing places firsthand and using these experiences as grounding for design. Based off this foundation set by my experiences at NUS, in my work I investigate new ways of seeing and understanding human impact on the environment, and mediating this through design.
