Urban and Regional Economics uses economic analysis to explain issues related to policies and economics in urban and regional growth. This course provides economic perspectives to support more effective and sustainable city and regional planning, focusing on the fundamental economic forces and their impacts on cities, processes and people, and particularly on disruptive technologies and climate change. Some of the topics covered include city growth, land use patterns and planning, real estate cycles, location decisions of firms, industries, and households, roles of local government, public finance and regional competitiveness policies. The course will equip students with concepts and knowledge for analysing urban social and economic issues and evaluating planning and design interventions.
