DEP5107 DISSERTATION
Dissertation is a research-intensive course that facilitates conducting an independent research project during the final semester of MUP programme, under the supervision of a research-active faculty member, with expertise in a related domain, and optionally, in collaboration with other experts. A dissertation at the graduate level is expected to make a contribution to the body of knowledge, instead of summarising existing knowledge (e.g. a literature review). The key objectives of the dissertation course are to improve research skills and provide an opportunity to the students to deepen their transferrable skills and expertise in a particular topic of interest. The course is flexible; it allows freedom in exploring own interests and it is predominantly self-motivated. Students are expected to undertake a higher degree of independence than in the majority of other courses. The dissertation is a major piece of research work that culminates in a report of about 8,000-10,000 words.
