DEP5112 Planning Policy and Process
This core course that equips students with a comprehensive knowledge about the planning processes with an emphasis on policy considerations and regulations. In Planning Policy and Process, students will learn how urban planning policy design, analysis, and implementation shape cities’ and communities’ resilience, equity, and public health outcomes. Extensive reference will be made to the Singapore planning process at various levels, which will be compared with other cities in different cultural and social contexts. This will enable the discussion about different stages of urban planning processes and major tools to be used in subfields of urban planning, such as land use, housing development, and climate change. Theories from multiple disciplines will be employed to analyse the planning processes and tools. Finally, students will be exposed to various practice-oriented activities, such as plan evaluations, case study writings, and presentations to prepare themselves as forward-looking, collaborative and responsible planning practitioners.
