Master of Landscape Architecture

There is one intake per academic year in August. Applications to the Master of Landscape Architecture programme for the August 2024 intake are open between 1 October 2023 and 31 March 2024. For early consideration, students should aim to submit their applications by 31 December 2023, and outstanding candidates can expect to receive an offer as early as February 2024. Applicants who submit by 31 January 2024 can expect to receive offers in early March. The results of later applications will be released by the end of May.

While most offers will be made to early applications by March 2024, some may still receive an offer at a later date. The Department takes care to look at the applications as a cohort and will review all submitted applications together where necessary.

For admission as a candidate for the Master of Landscape Architecture, a person must have obtained one of the following qualifications prior to enrolment:

• A Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours) degree (or equivalent from a reputable university), OR
• A bachelor degree or above in a design-based built environment discipline such as architecture, urban design, urban planning, and environmental design

The application should comprise the following:
1. A Design Portfolio that showcases the applicant’s most representative work in landscape architecture or other aspects of the design of the built environment. The admissions committee will consider the quality of the design project, but more importantly how you arrived at a final resolution. As such, please include process sketches, study models, or other items produced during the design process in addition to any final products.

• Each portfolio should be a PDF format with no more than 20 pages of A4 (210mm x 297mm) size and a maximum of 4 design projects. Please note that in the online admission system, the total size of your uploaded documents should not exceed 10 MB.

• For each project, please declare the project duration; nature of project (e.g. academic, competition, professional, external workshops); names of all collaborators; and the instructors / employers (names, position, and affiliations).

• Please ensure that all work in your portfolio meets the highest standards of academic integrity. Please state clearly the applicant’s contribution for any group or professional work and cite any text or images that were not produced by the applicant.

2. A Statement of Purposes outlining the motivation for applying to the MLA programme at NUS, relevant experiences in academia or practice, and academic interests that you are interested in pursuing at NUS. This statement should not be more than 1000 words.

3. A detailed Curriculum Vitae with no more than TWO A4 Pages

6. Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by means of TOEFL / IELTS test scores. Applicants may be waived from this requirement if they completed their degree programme taught entirely in English, situated in an English speaking country, for example (non exhaustive list) Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, USA.

To meet the English requirement for the MLA programme, the minimum score expected is :
– IELTS: A minimum 6.5 overall band score.
– TOEFL iBT (at a test center)/Home Edition: A minimum score of 92.
– TOEFL iBT Paper Edition: A minimum score of 580.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to appear for an interview. Where an applicant is not based in Singapore, the interview will take place via video call.
