Alvin is a Research Assistant Professor at NUS College of Design and Engineering and Deputy Director of Research for NUS Cities. He holds a PhD in Engineering Science from KU Leuven (Belgium) and a Master of Design from LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore). His scientific and technical interests lie in the application of geospatial modelling, artificial intelligence, and simulation to urban planning and governance. Alvin is driving the development of urban science capabilities in geodemographic modelling, studies of town typology, and AI for the Built Environment, fostering translational research that connects scientific insights to real-world planning and governance challenges.

Prior to his appointment at NUS, Alvin led the Data Science and Engineering practice at the URA’s Design and Planning Lab, where he spearheaded the build-up of urban science capabilities through research partnerships and in-house technology development initiatives.
