Anuj JAIN (Dr)
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Dr. Anuj Jain is the Director and Principal Ecologist at bioSEA, an Ecology and Biomimicry Design consultancy in Singapore. Anuj founded bioSEA in 2017 to bridge the gap between nature & architecture as he believes that urban development needs nature as a stakeholder at the design table. The firm specialises in biodiversity and ecosystem service impact assessments, financial valuation of greenery as well as ecological and wildlife infrastructure design. bioSEA continues to imbibe the founding philosophy of ‘shaping built environments to function like rainforests’.
With a PhD in Urban Ecology and Wildlife Conservation and a Biomimicry Professional Certification with Biomimicry 3.8 USA, Anuj’s flagship projects range from creating the world’s longest butterfly trail in Orchard Road Singapore, designing elephant skin inspired cooling façade tiles, to developing a nature-centric design framework for high-rise buildings in Singapore. The latter was nominated for the Earthshot Prize in 2025. Apart from bioSEA, Anuj is a National Geographic Explorer, Advisor for BirdLife International (Asia) and the Founding Member of Biomimicry Singapore Network. Prior to starting bioSEA, Anuj was the Preventing Extinctions Coordinator at BirdLife International where he focused on the conservation of threatened species in south and south east Asia particularly, India, Indonesia and Malaysia. Anuj has been involved in teaching the NUS Master of Science, Integrated Sustainable Design (MSc ISD) programme since August 2017. He has also supervised Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) ) students. When not working, Anuj enjoys a hike, run or play with his young kids.
