Robin Hartanto Honggare is a historian working at the intersection of architecture, environmental humanities, and commodity histories. His current book project investigates the extensive network of buildings that enabled commodity production in the Dutch East Indies.

Robin received his PhD in Architecture and MS in critical and curatorial practices from Columbia University. He also holds a BArch from Universitas Indonesia.

His research has been supported by the Graham Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, the American-Indonesian Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Nieuwe Instituut, where he was involved in the Collecting Otherwise working group. His articles have been published in Southeast of Now, PLATFORM, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, the Avery Review, and the Jakarta Post among other publications. He has also produced works in other forms, including Craftsmanship: Material Consciousness (2014)—the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2014 Venice Biennale—and Tropic Fever (2022), a documentary film on colonial plantations premiered at DOK Leipzig.
