Er. Kwa Chin Soon graduated from Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) NUS in 2010 on a BCA undergraduate scholarship, and a Master in Social Science in Applied Economics NUS in 2013. Following his graduation in 2010, Er. Kwa had stints at HDB and BCA, applying precast technology to Singapore’s public housing projects and ensuring that building works comply with Singapore’s high standards of safety. In 2014, Er. Kwa was awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to pursue a Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he published a thesis on probabilistic assessment of engineering properties in Singapore for cavern feasibility.
Upon returning from MIT, Er. Kwa continued to play a key role in Singapore’s built environment, including shaping and formulating policies to support the Built Environment during the on-going Covid-19 pandemic at the Ministry of National Development and managing the construction of the Circle Line 6 running through the challenging geology of the Central Business District in his current role as a Deputy Director at the Land Transport Authority.
Er. Kwa is an active CEE alumnus. He has served as OAM ambassador, as well as EAB secretary for the Environmental Programme. He has also served the student body by providing mentorship to students, giving talks to students and regularly participated in the annual CE Club’s alumni fireside chats. Er. Kwa has also positively contributed to the community, serving in the Grassroots since 2007 and is currently the Chairman of the Sengkang West Youth Network.
