Second Major in Civil Infrastructure

Offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (College of Design and Engineering).

The BEng (Civil) degree is recognized by Professional Engineers (PE) Board enabling its graduates to qualify for the PE (Civil) registration. PE Board has indicated that BEng (Environmental Engineering) graduates can be recognized to be eligible for the PE (Civil) registration if they have also completed a formal proposed Second Major in Civil Infrastructure.

This programme was prepared in consultation with PE Board representatives. For students in the programme to be awarded a Second Major in Civil Infrastructure, they are required to satisfy all their Major degree requirements, read and pass the following Civil Engineering modules which provide key Civil Engineering foundation knowledge.

Students from other Major, may also be considered for this Second Major in Civil Infrastructure, however, they will not be eligible for the PE (Civil) registration.

Eligibility

To qualify, a student must

  • obtain the minimum CAP of 3.5
  • completed CE1101A Civil Engineering Principles & Practice (or CE1103 Principles of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering)

Once admitted to this Second Major programme, students do not need to maintain any minimum academic performance threshold to remain in the programme. They are strongly encouraged to plan their modules well in order to be able to complete the programme requirements.

Students can declare their interest no later than the end of the 2nd semester of study.
