Aug. 28, 2021

EFCATS Award Recipient Professor Javier Pérez-Ramírez

Professor Javier Pérez-Ramírez is a Professor at the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering of the ETH Zurich. He is also the Isaac Manasseh Meyer Visiting Professor at NUS, actively managing the NUS Flagship Green Energy Program as its Director. Recently, Prof. Pérez-Ramírez received the Robert K. Grasselli Award for Catalysis, a prestigious award of EFCATS (The European Federation of Catalysis Societies). The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to heterogeneous catalysis.

Prof. Pérez-Ramírez develops sustainable processes for transforming CO2, natural gas and other important carbon substrates into energy carriers and intermediates. The processes are based on advanced nano- and mesostructured materials. For example, through the NUS Flagship Green Energy Program, he aims to establish new processes for converting CO2 into liquid fuels by using renewable energy.

Prof. Pérez-Ramírez is also the Director of NCCR Catalysis and the Editor in Chief of Catalysis Science & Technology. His recent awards include the 2019 Paul H. Emmett Award in Fundamental Catalysis (North American Catalysis Society) and the 2017 Sustainable Energy Award (Royal Society of Chemistry).
