  • The Department becomes the first foreign academic entity to be invited to join the (US) Council for Chemical Research in Washington, DC, an organization consisting of most of the US chemical research enterprise whose mission is to promote cooperation in basic research and to encourage high-quality education in the chemical sciences and engineering.

  • The Applied Chemistry Section was separated from the Department of Chemistry to form the Department of Chemical Engineering
