Graduate Certificate in Workplace Risk & Safety Management
Programme Objective
The Singapore Government has placed significant emphasis on workplace safety and health (WSH), with the enactment of the WSH Act and establishment of the WSH Council. This programme is designed and targeted for management, safety and health personnel, and line supervisors, to provide skills in developing a practical risk and safety management.
Upon completion, candidates who performed well may have the opportunity to admit into a Master of Science in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology (M.Sc. SHE) programme.
This programme is open to graduates with at least a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
Programme Content
This graduate certificate programme is hosted by NUS Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering to provide targeted training in risk and safety management.

Each course will have 39 formal contact hours. Classes may be conducted on weekday evenings or on Saturdays.

Modes of assessment comprise combinations of some or all of these items:
- Quizzes / Term papers /Projects
- In-class participation

Award of Graduate Certificate
Individuals who have successfully completed the 3 courses (equivalent to 12 units) with a GPA of at least 2.5 will be deemed to have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate Programme. Such individuals will be awarded a Graduate Certificate. There will be no continuation requirements.
Participants may repeat courses [with fees] to improve GPA provided the max candidature is not exceeded.
Students who do not take examinations or fail to attain a GPA ≥ 2.5 will be given a Certificate of Participation, listing the courses taken if attendance is at least 70% for the listed course.
Admission to Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environmental Technology) Programme
- Students who graduate with a GPA ≥ 3.0 may be considered for admission to M.Sc. SHE programme.
- A maximum of 12 units of courses (each course with a minimum grade of B-) may be transferred to the M.Sc. SHE programme, subject to approval by the ChBE department. The validity period of the transfer is not more than 5 years from the award of the Graduate Certificate.
- An application for transfer of credits must be submitted to CDE Office of Graduate Programmes (OGP) within the first two instructional weeks of the semester upon enrolment into the Masters candidature. The completed application form should be accompanied by a copy of the Graduate Certificate transcript indicating the course(s) for credit transfer.
Application Procedures
Our Graduate Certificate programmes are open to Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and International Students. As this is a part-time programme, International Students must currently reside in Singapore with a valid work pass.
Application is open twice a year.
