NUS researchers developed a new natural gas storage technology

A research team from Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore, developed a new technology that can rapidly store natural gas in solid state. The team is led by Dean’s Chair Associate Professor Praveen Linga. The solids, known as gas hydrates, can be stored over a long period potentially at a cost that is substantially lower than that of the existing technologies. The team has recently published a research article in Energy & Environmental Science to report this development, and is working on scaling-up of the technology for industrial applications.
