Projects
B.Eng Dissertation
The project aims to provide students with training for scientific or technical research. The course involves an assignment of a research project, equipment training and safety education. Students need to spend at least one full day per week on the project under the guidance of the project supervisor and co-supervisor. A thesis is required at the end of the semester, including literature survey, materials and method, results and discussion, and suggestions for further study. A poster presentation is also required. This course is targeted at all level 4 chemical engineering students.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP)
UROP is an individual academic research project you would undertake typically over two semesters or during the Special Term. To be eligible for UROP, you need to have at least Stage 2 standing (typically achieved after completing 36 units of courses) and have at least two regular semesters of study remaining prior to graduation. Successful completion of UROP counts as 4 units of Unrestricted Elective (UE). UROP is recommended if you wish to learn the skills of independent research. You may be supervised by a professor within our Department, or you may choose a project in another department, allowing you exposure to a different engineering discipline. More details on UROP can be found here.
Undergraduate Research Experience (UREx)
UREx aims to provide opportunities to students to work on projects of their choice. To be eligible for UREx, you need to have at least Stage 2 standing (typically achieved after completing 36 units of courses) and have at least two regular semesters of study remaining prior to graduation. Successfully completing UREx will earn you 4 units which is counted towards Unrestricted Elective (UE). UREx projects are student-proposed and students are required to source for their own supervisor(s). Students have the option to carry out the UREx project individually or in a group (with no more than 4 members) over a period of up to two regular semesters. More details on UREx can be found here.
