Contextualizing the pedagogy of digital game-based learning (DGBL) within an experiential environment for construction designers

In Singapore, the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council seeks to bring together designers, contractors, and clients to enhance workplace safety and health. Since August 2016, the WSH (Design for Safety) Regulations require designers to consider safety of workers be incorporated as a part of their designs (MOM, 2016). However, past research had shown that designers generally are not inclined to address construction worker safety in their design decisions (Gambatese, Hinze and Haas, 1997), even though in a construction project, workplace safety performance are influenced by the designers’ decisions (Hinze and Wiegand, 1992).

Creating 3D Assets for SafeSim Risks

SafeSim Risk is a digital simulation game, an extension from SafeSim Hazards, designed to help Project and Facilities Management (PFM) students understand the importance of risk assessment. It features a virtual construction site where students are required to identify hazards and good practices, and subsequently evaluate the risk level of hazards based on their severity and likelihood.

WSH Seminar Series 2020

Over two Fridays, SaRRU held its first-ever seminar online, showcasing current research being done by the lab. This seminar was focused on potential industry applications of the ongoing research being done. SaRRU has always taken a strong interest in working with industry partners for their research and we welcome potential industry collaborations. Projects were showcased according to two themes from the National Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) strategies 2028.
