On 9 June 2022, SaRRU hosted a lecture by an invited speaker, Assoc. Prof. Emily Huang from the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences. Assoc. Prof. Huang received her PhD from Portland State University in Industrial-Organizational Psychology/ Systems Science. She is a prolific safety climate researcher, having published more than 80 journal articles, 6 book chapters, and more than 100 conference proceedings. In 40 years of safety climate research, Assoc. Prof. Huang was recognised as one of the authors with the most published works in the field. Assoc. Prof. Huang spoke on the research she conducts into safety climate.

Assoc. Prof. Huang spoke on the importance of the concept of safety climate, which is a way to measure the true priority of safety, when there are competing demands from the company. In addition to predicting the safety outcomes experienced by an organisation, safety climate is also linked to better job satisfaction, engagement, and objective turnover. Assoc. Prof. Huang discussed her work in measuring safety climate - for creating industry specific scales and a shortened version of the generic safety climate scale.
