COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course provides useful insights on the concept of ‘placemaking’: its variants, historical evolution, typologies as well as case studies of successful examples and also challenging cases from the Asia-Pacific including Singapore’s journey. Classroom instructions, group discussions and site visits will ensure that placemaking agents, place management professionals and urban planners will find the course useful. This includes practical aspects like community engagement, partnerships, sustainable business models, creative and strategic approaches, and tools.
This course aims to:
- Train local practicing place managers who undertake responsibilities in placemaking related fields to bridge the current gap of lack of placemaking professionals in industry.
- Introduce participants to software programs and applications applicable to place making.
At the end of the course, participants will gain:
- Conceptual understanding of placemaking and the different areas that can help enhance the placemaking skillsets.
- Practical skills and expertise in the practice of place management.
- Understanding of how a place making precinct is applied through a case study.
- Basic understanding of cost-benefit analysis.
- Understanding of initiatives which are relevant and make an impact to the precinct.
